Machine room-less elevators: elevator cabinets

In the field of hydraulic lifts there is an ideal solution when we do not want or do not have space to build a machine room. The solution, in these cases, is to place the hydraulic power station in a special cabinet for this purpose. Below we explain its characteristics and advantages:

Function and characteristics of an elevator cabinet

Special elevator cabinets house the hydraulic power station and the control panel.

There are two types of cabinets:

  • Conventional cabinets: the central unit is located inside the cabinet.
  • Compact cabinets: The cabinet adjusts to the size of the central unit and is mounted on top of it where the central unit tank is exposed.

On the other hand, the material from which a cabinet is made is metal and the access door can consist of one or two leaves depending on the model and size of the cabinet. It is important to note that this type of cabinet must be opened with a special key by an elevator technician.

Advantages of installing a cabinet as a machine room

The main advantages of installing a cabinet as a machine room are three:

  1. Increased living space: By avoiding the traditional machine room, the closet allows for more living space.
  2. Small spaces: In spaces where it would be impossible to build a machine room, the cabinet solution is an optimal solution.
  3. Versatility in the location of the closet: The closet can be located next to the elevator or it can be further away if the design of the home requires it.

Where can a wardrobe be installed?

There are different sizes of cabinets depending on the hydraulic power plant. This allows these cabinets to be installed in single-family homes, apartment buildings and car parks…

Normative

Together with the central unit and the tank, they comply with EN 81-20 and 81-50 and are easy to assemble, taking on average about 15 minutes.
