On December 3rd, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated with the aim of promoting the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all areas of society, as well as raising awareness about their situation in all aspects of life.
According to data provided by the United Nations, it is highlighted that:
- World population: seven billion people.
- More than one billion people suffer from some form of disability (one in seven).
- More than one hundred million people with disabilities are children.
Accessibility, a pending subject
Last year, the Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities and its entities held 37 rallies in different Spanish cities to denounce the lack of accessibility in residential buildings and to raise awareness of the situation of hundreds of people with disabilities who cannot leave their homes because of barriers.
