ToggleThe Spanish lifting sector in 2022
According to the study data, it is noteworthy that, in 2022 , activity in the sector will continue to increase , although with different increases depending on the business area. Overall, growth of +5.29% is recorded compared to 2021 .
Growth in the elevator sector in Spain
In terms of business segments, new building construction has seen growth of +11.02% . The after-sales segment has increased by +3.96% and exports have increased by +7.81% .
With these data we can confirm that both exports and installations of new elevators have been the sectors that have driven global growth.
On the one hand, housing construction in Spain has stagnated and production costs have increased significantly (by 23% for cement and up to 84% for steel). This means that our sector continues to grow in this segment, partly thanks to the installation of lifts in already constructed residential buildings.
On the other hand, the growth in exports indicates the dynamics that companies are following to redirect their businesses to sell outside the country.
Rising costs
In terms of after-sales, inflation and rising energy and material costs are the main factors limiting further growth in this segment. On the other hand, uncertainty about the publication dates of the new ITC for Elevators is causing delays and delays in the agreements and decisions that communities of owners must take regarding their equipment.
Hiring of staff
The increase in staff is minimal, at only +0.22% . This situation is attributed to various social, macroeconomic and business factors. On the one hand, many companies are outsourcing certain tasks that they previously performed internally. On the other hand, elevator repair, maintenance and installation work continues to face a shortage of qualified personnel, despite the numerous efforts of the sector to solve this situation.
The number of elevators in operation has increased by +1.25% compared to 2021, maintaining a slightly upward trend that has been constant over the past few years. The number of elevators installed has grown by almost 7% .
On the other hand, the number of stairs and corridors installed has increased by 5.4%, due to the increase in activity in the tertiary sector once the pandemic was over, and to a lesser extent, to the increase in tenders for infrastructure works. However, the number of stairs and corridors installed in 2022 was -2.9% lower than in 2021.
