Ana Simon trapped in an elevator

ana simon elevatorAna Simón, a contributor to La Sexta's Zapeando programme, tells an anecdote during one of the broadcasts about the day she was trapped in an elevator.

The programme's collaborator explains that the incident occurred in Madrid, where the lift she was travelling in got stuck between two floors. She finally managed to get out thanks to the kind help of the concierge, although to do so, Ana had to climb over the wall to be freed.

As we have seen on other occasions, in hydraulic elevators, in cases of emergency such as a power cut, the rescue of passengers is possible without the need for external help. This type of elevator has an emergency system integrated into the central unit, a small 12v emergency battery through which the elevator descends to the nearest floor by the force of gravity.

In the event of cabin blockage, the operator has a hand pump, an easy-to-use lever that allows the cabin to be unlocked and the rescue to be carried out using the emergency button. This manoeuvre can be carried out, if necessary, by non-specialised personnel.

On the other hand, the elevator machinery is located on the ground floor of the building. All this makes the system very safe, easy and accessible.

  1. Poor Ana Simon must have been desperate to suffer this event. Although elevators make our lives easier, the unexpected event of being trapped in an elevator can cause claustrophobia. The question in this case would be, why did the elevator fail?

  2. I once experienced something similar. I am usually a calm person, but that day I got quite a scare. Time passes very slowly and we only long to hear the arrival of the elevator maintenance technician.
