On November 6, three earthquakes were detected in Andalusia in the provinces of Jaén, Granada and Cádiz, all of them around 3 degrees of magnitude.
Depending on the intensity of the seismic movements, they can cause possible electrical failures and failures in services such as vertical transport, which may be temporarily interrupted.
Differences between an electric and hydraulic lift
In the case of an electric lift being installed, it may mean that the fire service must act to open the lift doors and rescue the passengers, with the consequent public expense that this may entail. If the earthquake were of greater intensity and damaging to the structure of the building and the lift shaft, the danger would increase, to the point where the counterweight could fall onto the car in a supposed uncontrolled fall of the lift.
However, if a hydraulic lift is installed, the force of gravity acts by itself, lowering the cabin to the first floor with the doors opening automatically. This second situation would save public costs as well as the time of the same people trapped inside the cabin.
