ToggleWhat pistons should be used in high load elevators?
On many occasions we receive calls from clients/collaborators requesting our cooperation in the optimal design of high load elevators.
When working with this type of installation, such as forklifts, stretcher lifts, car lifts, etc., the most suitable pistons are GMV's TCS and EC, also known as mechanical synchronization pistons.
Advantages of mechanical timing pistons
The main advantages of TCS and EC pistons with mechanical synchronization are:
- Lifting of heavy loads . The piston is inverted, meaning that the rod comes out from below instead of from above (see image). This allows the piston to lift heavy loads up to 25 m and operate at a maximum speed of 1 m/s, making it ideal for installations such as freight elevators , stretcher lifts , car lifts and truck lifts.
-
More economical installation . Being 1:1 pistons, the installation is simplified, allowing to dispense with components specific to the chassis, obtaining advantages both at a functional and economic level. Among them we can highlight:
a) No parachutes, cables, tensioners or pulleys required.
b) Simple assembly, with fewer components to install.
c) Lower maintenance costs
d) Fewer wear elements. - Movement with excellent synchronization between the different stages (up to 4 stages). Thus avoiding possible impacts that would be transmitted to the load.
- Stability during loading and unloading of material, without cabin movements when raising or lowering the load. Without the need for additional anchoring elements, which are often necessary in 2:1 installations.
- Larger cabins with TCS pistons, thanks to its design and not requiring typical components of 2:1 installations such as the pulley, allows us to reduce the distance between the cabin wall and the shaft wall, thus maximizing cabin dimensions.
- Possibility of including guides for installations with heavier loads.
a) Without guides: high loads
b) With guides: very high loads - Certified design06-GOT-CL-004
- Availability of a manifold to connect the pistons designed to make it easy to mount
How many stages and pistons do you need for your installation?
The number of piston stages and the number of pistons required will depend on the characteristics of each installation and will have to be calculated in each case. (For example, a 30,000 kg truck with a travel of 9 m will need 8 4-stage EC pistons).
